People in Sudan’s South Kordofan Battle Starvation

(MENAFN) In the conflict-ravaged region of South Kordofan, Sudan, at least 46 individuals—primarily women and children—have lost their lives due to severe malnutrition over the last two months, according to Sudan’s Doctors Network.

The organization reported on Saturday that “46 deaths in South Kordofan due to malnutrition during July and August” had been “monitored,” emphasizing that the majority of the victims were women and young children.

The network further revealed that over 19,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women are in desperate need of additional nutritional assistance.

“More than 19,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women are in urgent need of supplementary nutrition,” it stated, underscoring the scale of the crisis.

Describing the worsening conditions in cities like Kadugli and Dalanj, the group denounced the use of hunger as a method of warfare. It characterized such tactics as “a crime against humanity and a war crime under international law.”

The statement drew attention to the increasingly desperate humanitarian conditions on the ground.

The Sudan’s Doctors Network specifically blamed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for enforcing a blockade on civilian populations.

It condemned “the continued siege and starvation of civilians,” and called for “the immediate lifting of the blockade and the opening of safe humanitarian corridors to allow unrestricted delivery of food and medicine.”

In a final plea, the organization urged all concerned parties—“local, regional, and international authorities, the World Health Organization, and all relevant humanitarian agencies”—to take swift action to save vulnerable lives. It warned that immediate intervention is necessary “before it is too late.”
