S. Korea Reports First Case of Avian Influenza in 2025

(MENAFN) South Korea has confirmed its first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza for the year, according to a report by a South Korean news agency on Saturday.

The discovery, made at a poultry farm in Paju, located in Gyeonggi Province just north of Seoul, prompted an immediate escalation of the country’s alert level and a strengthening of quarantine protocols.

This marks the earliest identification of the virus in recent memory, as prior outbreaks have generally emerged in October or November.

As a result, the alert level has been upgraded from "attention" to "caution."

Officials have announced that inspections will be conducted at chicken farms across the province, as well as at poultry vendors in traditional markets and livestock transport vehicles nationwide. These measures aim to ensure strict adherence to disinfection and quarantine procedures.
