Trump Reports Encouraging Signals in Russia-Ukraine Peace Push

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump declared Monday that his administration is witnessing preliminary breakthroughs in the push to halt the Russia-Ukraine conflict, even as diplomatic channels open simultaneously with Iran and throughout the Middle East.

During an Oval Office briefing, Trump addressed questions surrounding forthcoming discussions between US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, slated for Friday.

"You have Iran, and you have Russia, Ukraine, and you have the Middle East. We have a lot of things going," Trump said, adding that many of the conflicts predated his return to office.

'Tremendous hatred between Zelenskyy and Putin'
Regarding Ukraine, Trump expressed measured hopefulness. "I think we're doing very well with Ukraine and Russia. For the first time, I'm saying that," he said, suggesting that "maybe" there could be "some good news."

The commander-in-chief underscored what he characterized as staggering casualty figures, denouncing the bloodshed as needless. "We're losing — 25,000 people a month are being killed in that war," Trump said, stressing the human toll despite the war's indirect impact on the US.

Trump once more attacked ex-President Joe Biden's management of Ukraine assistance, alleging the prior administration expended "$350 billion."

He indicated his strategy demands allies bear a greater share of the economic burden, contending that European nations are compensating the US for armaments through NATO frameworks. "We send missiles over there. They pay us in full. It doesn't cost us 10 cents," he said.

While emphasizing expenditures, Trump maintained his foremost objective was humanitarian. "What I really want to do is save those people from dying," he said.

Trump conceded that advancement has lagged behind projections, attributing the delay to profound hostility between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"There's tremendous hatred between Zelenskyy and Putin," he said, calling it a key obstacle to a faster resolution.
