Saudi Arabia Reports Drone Attack on US Embassy in Capital
A ministry spokesperson, posting on the social media platform X, said that two drones struck the embassy. The attack caused a small fire and minor damage to the building, but no casualties were reported.
The strike comes amid heightened regional tensions following joint US-Israeli military operations on Iran launched early Saturday, which reportedly killed several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top military officials. In retaliation, Iran has launched missiles and drones targeting Israel and US military facilities across the Gulf.
In response, the US Embassy in Riyadh issued a security alert and a shelter-in-place order for its missions in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dhahran.
“The U.S. Mission to Saudi Arabia has issued a shelter in place notification for Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran and is limiting non-essential travel to any military installations in the region – we recommend American citizens in the Kingdom to shelter in place immediately,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X.
The embassy emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation and advised US citizens to maintain personal safety plans, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, and follow guidance from local authorities.
