Poland Opens Human Trafficking Probe into Epstein

(MENAFN) Polish authorities have launched an inquiry into suspected human trafficking connected to the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein, following the release of documents by the US Justice Department indicating that victims may have been recruited in Poland.

The National Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday that the investigation focuses on whether women, including minors and Polish citizens, were misled about employment opportunities abroad before being transported across borders and handed over for sexual exploitation. The alleged trafficking is said to have occurred between 2009 and 2019.

Poland plans to request information and evidence from two European countries under a European Investigation Order, with sources indicating that the requests will be sent to France and Sweden.

The Polish probe is part of a broader international response to the recent disclosure of millions of Epstein documents, which has sparked criminal investigations, arrests, and resignations involving political figures, business leaders, and members of royalty.

In the United Kingdom, former trade envoy Peter Mandelson was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over alleged leaks to Epstein. Ex-Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was also briefly detained on similar charges and remains under investigation; he was stripped of royal titles last year due to his past association with Epstein. One anonymous claim in the documents accused Andrew of participating in the torture of a six-year-old.

Elsewhere, former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland was hospitalized following a reported suicide attempt shortly after being charged with gross corruption related to accepting Epstein’s hospitality. Additionally, Borge Brende, CEO of the World Economic Forum, resigned following reports of dinners and communications with Epstein.
