Report Links California Leak Firm to F-35 Fighter Jet Production
The incident took place at a GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove, where a storage tank reportedly ruptured last week, prompting evacuation orders affecting up to 50,000 residents.
Since 2017, the site has reportedly received more than $13 million in subcontracting work tied to defense giant Lockheed Martin, which leads global production of the F-35 program.
The report said Lockheed Martin depends on a wide network of subcontractors across multiple countries for F-35 manufacturing, including GKN Aerospace Transparency Inc., a subsidiary based in Garden Grove. That subsidiary has reportedly secured over $255 million in subcontracting contracts linked to the program.
A local resident and organizer quoted in reports criticized the situation, saying community members were bearing the consequences of industrial activity in the area.
“While GKN chases contracts and profits, our community pays the price with school closures and disrupted livelihoods,” Sofia Awaida, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement and evacuee, said.
