In Original Echoes, Fred Langley has left wartime intelligence behind and established himself as a journalist. His experience with coded information, conflicting evidence, and concealed motives makes him an appropriate observer when he is sent to Blackpool to assess Project EUNOMIA.
The confidential programme centres on an unusual Victorian apparatus discovered beneath the Winter Gardens. Despite its age, the machine continues to draw power. Government officials believe it was designed to influence behaviour through sound, atmosphere, and psychological suggestion, raising the possibility that it could be used to encourage public obedience during a period shaped by Cold War uncertainty.
Fred’s assignment becomes increasingly complicated as records contradict one another, previous test subjects appear to have vanished, and his own recollections begin to conflict with documented events.
A Mystery Extending Back to 1895
As Project EUNOMIA approaches a larger test, Fred discovers that the apparatus may affect more than human behaviour. Its history leads to a mysterious performance at the Winter Gardens in 1895, an event that was documented yet somehow disappeared from Blackpool’s collective memory.
Activation of the machine sends Fred through a fracture in time and into Victorian Blackpool. There, his investigation brings him into contact with the Welcroft Society, an influential organisation seeking to use the apparatus to impose its ideas of social and moral order.
At the centre of its plans is Clara Langdon, a young woman whose voice is required for a ritual she has not freely chosen. Fred must determine how the machine, the society, and a concealed part of Blackpool’s history are connected while the reality around him becomes increasingly unstable.

Building the Echoes Mysteries
Dr Jeremy draws on his years living in Lancashire and his familiarity with Blackpool’s architecture, theatres, hotels, piers, and changing identity. Recognisable locations provide the historical foundation for a fictional story spanning different periods.
His debut novel, Fractured Echoes, was published in September 2025. It received a silver medal in the Best Debut Novel category of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards and was named a finalist in the 2026 Page Turner Awards.
